Weight: 3.4 kg
Material: heavy copper alloy / bronze
Origin: Mongolia / Himalayan region
Date: 19th century

Description
Heavy and characterful bronze Buddha from the Mongolian Buddhist tradition. The Buddha is seated in meditation on a broad multi-tiered base and holds a small stupa or reliquary centrally. The restrained modelling, elongated earlobes and compact curls give the sculpture a distinctly archaic presence.
Casting and mark
The figure is hollow cast and shows old green-blue copper oxidation inside. The lower rim has been hand-finished. The underside bears old struck markings, including a circular script mark that is probably read as Qing. The mark is described as a workshop or foundry mark rather than a dynastic reign mark.
Patina and condition
The copper alloy has a richly developed green-brown and golden-brown patina, with wear on raised areas and oxidation in protected recesses. Good antique condition with age- and use-related wear consistent with a 19th-century devotional object.
Each object is examined before it is offered: material, casting or carving technique, surface, and signs of age are compared with documented references. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and an official invoice detailing the period, material, and available provenance.
