Buddha Statues
Buddha Statues from the Major Sculptural Traditions of Asia
This is the principal Buddha-only collection on 1stBuddha: seated, standing, walking and reclining images associated with the artistic traditions of Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, China, Cambodia, Laos and neighbouring regions.
The category is deliberately narrower than Buddhist Statues, which also includes bodhisattvas, protective deities and other figures. Here the focus is the Buddha image itself and the many ways regional workshops interpreted its canonical features.
Read the image before the date
Mudra, posture, robe, ushnisha, hair, facial modelling and pedestal establish the basic image type. A Bhumisparsha Buddha from Myanmar can share the same gesture as a Thai or Himalayan example while differing completely in proportion, casting or carving technique and stylistic vocabulary.

Explore Bronze Buddha Statues for copper-alloy casting, gilding and patina, or Wooden Buddha Statues for carved, lacquered and polychrome traditions. Buddha Heads provides a closer view of facial style, hair treatment and ushnisha types.
Browse by region
Regional groups include Thai, Burmese, Nepalese, Tibetan and Chinese Buddha statues. Each region uses its own sculptural language, and later revival styles are catalogued separately from earlier prototypes where the evidence permits.
Age, origin and authenticity are assessed item by item; neither patina, wear nor a familiar style name is treated as a stand-alone dating test.
