Thai Buddha iconography
This compact bronze Buddha head displays the classic features of the Thai sculptural tradition: downcast eyes, a serene facial expression, elongated earlobes, an urna on the forehead, and a dense pattern of small hair curls. The ushnisha culminates in a strikingly tall, flame-shaped finial.
Late Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin style
The combination of the elongated silhouette, the high flame finial, and the stylized facial features aligns with the later Thai bronze tradition. The head is therefore placed in the late Ayutthaya / early Rattanakosin style and dated to the 19th century.
Casting and condition
The head is hollow-cast in a copper alloy. The open underside clearly shows the old casting structure and irregularities on the interior. The surface has a dark patina in the recesses, wear, and minor casting and age-related traces. The nine photos document the object from all sides and also show the underside.
Each object is examined before it is offered: material, casting or carving technique, surface, and signs of age are compared with documented references. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and an official invoice detailing the period, material, and available provenance.
