Distinctive Middle Hills carving
Austere in expression, the mask is defined by narrow pierced eyes, an elongated straight nose and a restrained open mouth. The simplified carving belongs to the ritual and folk traditions associated with Nepal’s Middle Hills.
Construction and surface
The reverse is deeply hollowed by hand for practical use. Tool marks remain visible throughout, while the dense dark surface shows long-term handling, dry age wear and small losses along exposed edges.
Condition
Good antique condition with expected wear, minor drying cracks, edge losses and surface abrasion. The aged patina and irregular carving are preserved.
