A poised South Indian bronze of Sri Devi
This 46.5 cm bronze presents Lakshmi in a restrained standing pose, recognisable by the lotus she carries. Rather than relying on elaborate movement, the sculptor builds presence through the long vertical silhouette, slight shift of the hips and carefully ordered jewellery.
Lakshmi as Sri Devi
Within the Vaishnava tradition, Sri Devi embodies auspiciousness, prosperity and abundance and is the divine consort of Vishnu. The lotus is her clearest surviving attribute here, connecting the figure with purity, fertility and flourishing.
Cast surface and patina
The bronze retains a mature brown-green surface with naturally varied oxidation. Wear is concentrated on exposed areas and the base, while recessed details preserve the modelling of ornaments and dress. No bright modern polishing has been used to flatten the historic surface.
