Nepalese Manjushri Statue with Sword of Wisdom – 22.5 cm

A Nepalese image of Manjushri

A raised sword forms a striking arc above the crown of this seated Manjushri. The book beside his shoulder rests on a lotus, while the layered lotus throne anchors the composition. At 22.5 cm tall, the statue offers a wealth of detail across its crown, jewellery and patterned robes.

Manjushri is the Buddhist bodhisattva of wisdom. His sword symbolises insight cutting through ignorance, and the lotus-borne scripture represents the Prajnaparamita, the perfection of wisdom. The composed face brings a quiet balance to the lifted sword.

Looking closely at the sculpture

The decoration continues around the figure: engraved shoulder ornaments, a beaded waist and carefully worked hair are visible on the back. The gold-coloured finish has areas of wear and darker surface tones. The underside responds to a magnet. The gallery contains 36 photographs showing the complete figure, close details and the bottom plate.
