Shop Thai Buddha statues in bronze, wood and stone, with antique and older works associated with Sukhothai, U Thong, Ayutthaya, Chiang Saen/Lanna and Rattanakosin traditions. Browse the available objects and compare price, dimensions, photographs and condition. Each statue is catalogued individually, with its period and regional attribution established from the object’s material, manufacture and style.
Terms such as Sukhothai or Ayutthaya are useful comparative categories, but later workshops frequently revived earlier forms. A flame-shaped ushnisha, sinuous body or elegant robe line may evoke Sukhothai vocabulary without proving a thirteenth- or fourteenth-century date. U Thong and early Ayutthaya images can show heavier modelling and different facial proportions, while later Rattanakosin sculpture may become more ornate and consciously historicising.
For that reason, we compare style with casting, core construction, base form, gilding, surface history and condition before proposing a period.
Bhumisparsha, meditation and standing or walking Buddha types are all represented in Thai art. The gesture, robe arrangement, pedestal and head type help establish the sculptural tradition. In bronze examples, traces of old gilding and casting structure can be highly informative; in wooden works, lacquer, gilding and polychromy may preserve several layers of use and restoration.
