The Philosophical & Historical Significance
Traditional Kokeshi dolls have been crafted for generations in the mountain villages of the Tohoku region. Each style represents its own artisanal tradition, with Naruko considered worldwide as one of the most beloved and recognizable Kokeshi schools.
- Chrysanthemum motif (Kiku): In Japan, the richly painted torso with stylized chrysanthemums symbolizes happiness, longevity, and imperial dignity.
- Traditional craftsmanship: The doll is entirely hand-turned from carefully selected Mizuki wood and brush-painted using centuries-old techniques passed down within the Naruko workshops.
- Dated and signed: The underside bears both the original pencil date "Showa 51 - July 29, 1976" and the handwritten signature of Master Hikoji Sato, accurately establishing the provenance and production date.
