Royal Buddha image
This richly carved figure presents the Buddha in Jambupati form, dressed in elaborate royal garments. The right hand descends in the earth-touching gesture while the left rests open in the lap. Relief-carved robes are set throughout with small green, silver-toned and red mirror and glass elements.
Shan-Mandalay workmanship
The elongated ears, compact curls, elevated ushnisha and dense royal ornament belong to the Burmese sculptural tradition around the turn of the 20th century. Natural wear to the gilding reveals darker lacquer and wood beneath.
Condition
Age-related wear, local losses to gilding and glass inlay, and old shrinkage cracks to the wood. The underside retains a dark older coating with visible wood grain and handling traces.
