Mandalay iconography

The Buddha is seated in meditation, the right hand descending in Bhumisparsha mudra while the left hand rests open in the lap. Long earlobes, inset eyes and the richly ornamented robe border place the sculpture firmly within the Burmese Mandalay tradition of the early 20th century.

Gilded decoration and mirror inlay

Raised lacquer decoration along the robe, base and forehead band is gilded and set with small pieces of green, red and mirrored glass. The gilded hair and ushnisha retain natural wear and darker exposed lacquer, giving the surface a convincing historic depth.

Solid wood construction

The figure is carved from solid wood. The underside preserves rough hand-cut recesses and chisel marks from the original carving process. Its construction, timber surface and wear are consistent with an early-20th-century Mandalay devotional image rather than a later lightweight decorative reproduction.

Condition

Good authentic collector condition with age-related wear, minor shrinkage cracks, localized gilding losses and some missing or damaged inlay elements. The structure remains stable and the sculpture presents strongly from all sides.
