Large Burmese temple Buddha

This monumental seated Buddha belongs to the Mandalay tradition of Myanmar. The right hand reaches down in Bhumisparsha mudra while the left hand rests in the lap, referring to the victory over Mara and the moment of enlightenment.

Richly decorated robe with glass mosaic

The robe is elaborately worked with floral and scrolling thayo-style relief. Small green and mirrored glass inlays form borders and floral motifs. The same decoration appears on the forehead band and wide pedestal. Inlaid eyes reinforce the characteristic Mandalay expression.

Historic gilding and age-related wear

The gilded surface shows natural wear, darker touch areas and old drying cracks through the body and base. Older stabilisations and fills are visible in places, and several glass inlays are missing.

Condition and dimensions

Good antique condition with age-related drying cracks, local old repairs, worn gilding, minor losses and missing glass elements.
