Iconography: Shakyamuni Buddha in bhumisparsha mudra
Each small bronze depicts the Buddha seated with his right hand lowered toward the earth and his left resting in his lap. The bhumisparsha gesture recalls the decisive moment before enlightenment when Shakyamuni called the earth to witness. Compact proportions, elongated ears, curled hair and restrained robe lines connect the figures with northern Thai sculptural conventions.
The bronzes correspond in scale and composition without being duplicate casts. Differences in facial modelling, surface and casting detail indicate two individual objects brought together as a convincing historical pair. Their variation gives the group considerably more character than a matched modern set.
Both figures are hollow cast. Their open bases reveal irregular interior surfaces, deposits and corrosion associated with age. Brown-black patina with localized green oxidation and natural wear remains visible throughout.
Each object is examined before it is offered: material, casting or carving technique, surface, and signs of age are compared with documented references. You will receive a certificate of authenticity and an official invoice detailing the period, material, and available provenance.
